* Sri Lanka commemorates fallen war heroes

June 07, Colombo: Wrapping up the month of commemoration of war heroes today Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa emphasized that the government is not ready to betray the victories of the country’s war heroes through signing false agreements.

The President stated this addressing the national war hero commemoration held today at the Ranaviru memorial in Mailapitiya, Kandy to end the month of commemoration of war heroes which began on May 7th.

Addressing the gathering of the relatives of fallen war heroes, armed forces heads and personnel and others, the President also said that the government has a clear programme to defeat the terrorism and there are no narrow political objectives behind them.

Two minutes silence was observed to commemorate over 23,000 war heroes who died in the two decades old civil war.
