Sunday, June 3, 2007, 17:12 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka today urged the international community to destroy the worldwide activities of Tamil Tigers and end their arms supply chain.

“How are they able to bring this to Sri Lanka - ? They pass through several ports. There are loading ports, discharging ports and transiting ports. They sometimes come in containers,” Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama told media in Singapore, where the 6th IISS Asia Security Summit, ‘The Shangri-La Dialogue’ was held.

“This chain has to be arrested, and towards which we need international and bilateral cooperation with other countries,” he said.

He urged that governments exercise vigilance in preventing the Tamil rebels from using their territories or waters, adding the group owns a number of ships under different flags, with which they smuggle military hardware.
