July 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Nation Building S.M. Chandrasena today volunteered to make a statement before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) pertaining to the allegations made by People’s Liberation Front (JVP) parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayaka raising serious doubts on the involvement of the Minister in the misappropriation of compensations for the Mavilaru farmers.
The Minister said to media after making the statement that he disclosed the details of three accounts and if the said cheated money was deposited in those accounts and if he was found guilty he would quit politics. The Minister demanded JVP MP Dissanayaka also to do the same if he was found wrong since the allegation was very serious.
Anura Kumara Dissanayaka addressing a special press conference yesterday at the parliament said that the fraud amounts to 8.9 million rupees. He further said that the suspicion over the involvement of the Minister S.M. Chandrasena in the incident was verified by his signing of the documents, which were to be officially signed by the Secretary of the Ministry. The MP raised suspicion if the cheques to the value of Rs. 3.7 million and 1.3 million were deposited in the accounts of either the Minister or his wife and said that the government should investigate it.
