* Sri Lanka Transport Board to raise the bus fleet

July 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) says that the Ministry of Transport has taken steps to raise the fleet of public buses in order to make it the prominent service.

Steps have been taken to increase the government owned bus fleet to 5,000 within this year from current 4,200. The SLTB has taken steps to import engines to put the sidelined buses back to roads. The repair centers now closed are also to be reopened. The Minister of Transport Dullas Alahapperuma has pledged to strengthen the administration of the SLTB.

Currently, the private bus fleet of Sri Lanka is 19,000 strong and is the major force in public transport.
