July 31, Colombo: A claymore mine explosion triggered by suspected Tamil Tigers killed three soldiers in south of Maseri in Varani, Jaffna today around 4.35 pm, Defense Ministry said.

Military sources said the claymore mine had been placed in close proximity to a well used by the army troops to obtain water. The three soldiers who were killed in the explosion had gone to the well for water.

A claymore mine targeting a government vehicle exploded in front of a children’s park yesterday in Jaffna injuring a 12 year old child, the military reported.

In a separate incident soldiers confronted a group of Tigers laying mines in the no man's land ahead of the Security Forces' Muhamalai forward defense line killing two Tiger cadres yesterday.
