July 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Marxist People’s Liberation Front (JVP) says that a number of politicians from the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United National Party (UNP) have expressed willingness to join the new national front being formed by the JVP. The party says that the discussions are now going on to form the broad front including them.
JVP sources said that the two ministers of the SLFP and two MPs of the UNP disagreeing with the current leadership are among the politicians who are willing to join the JVP front.
The JVP says that more provincial councilors and the local government members are likely to join the new national front.
Meanwhile the JVP sources ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party People’s Wing led by former Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Suriyaarachchi due to differences in basic policies.
