July 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Health and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that a three month grace period would be provided to private doctors to register in the Private Medial Regulatory Commission.
The period granted under the Private Medical Regulatory Commission Act passed in the parliament on March 22, for the private medical service providers to register in the regulatory commission ended 22 June.
The Minister said that many private medical service providers have now registered according to the law. He also said that the Act was passed in the parliament without any opposition and no one opposed it when the Act was gazette publicized.
However, the Government Medical Officers Association recently criticized the regulatory mechanism stating that it would benefit neither the service providers nor the consumers.
