Jan 07, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Bribery and Corruption Commission has framed charges against 118 individuals within the 18 months from April 2005 to October 2006.
Within that period, 24 have been punished by courts while 41 have been acquitted, says the Director General of the Bribery and Corruption Commission, Piyasena Ranasinghe. The rest of the cases are pending, he said.
The highest number of government officials nabbed while taking bribes were police officials. The Bribery and Corruption Commission has taken action against two popular school principals for obtaining property that is beyond their income capacity, and one of them hailing from the Kurunegala district has now been proved guilty.
