Jan 03, Colombo: Leveling a scathing attack on the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), government defence spokesperson Keheliya Rambukwella said the monitors have come to Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, in fear of the LTTE's claymore and landmines.
The Minister added that the LTTE has intensified recruitment of children in the absence of the ceasefire monitors.
Minister Rambukwella laughed at the SLMM, saying that their task is to monitor acts such as cattle thefts. The Minister further said that if the monitors were in the North and East, they could not ignore certain happenings there.
The government spokesperson said that hence, the monitors have left the North and East and linger in Colombo to allow the Tigers, who are “miserably short” of cadres, to abduct children for conscription.
The Minister also remarked that the monitors had said they were unable to do any monitoring due to threats to their lives from claymores and landmines. He asked the SLMM to tell the international community that they could not perform their duties due to the LTTE, as the government forces do not use such things.
