Jan 18, Colombo: The government of Japan will donate to Sri Lanka emergency relief items worth approximately Rs. 13.6 million for immediate distribution among people affected by floods and landslides in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Badulla, Monaragala, Hambantota and Ampara Districts.

“This emergency relief assistance donated through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) includes tents, plastic sheets, sleeping mats, generators, water purification systems, water tanks etc. for victims in those areas,” the Japanese Embassy in Colombo said.

The Japanese government decided to donate these items for humanitarian reasons, taking into account the scale of the disaster, the need to meet the immediate basic needs of those affected, and the friendly relations between the two countries, the Embassy said.
