Sri Lanka::
* Sri Lanka's main opposition party may withdraw from MoU with ruling party
Sunday, January 14, 2007, 14:37 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) is likely to withdraw from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) last October if the government absorbs parliamentarians from the UNP.

The withdrawal could be announced with the crossover and acceptance of Cabinet portfolios by UNP members against the wishes of their party leadership.

Around 20 UNP stalwarts are expected to join the government and accept portfolios, possibly next week.

Article 10 of the MoU states that both parties agree to the establishment of a High-Level Committee headed by the President and the UNP leader to cooperate regarding the resolution of any disagreement that may arise while implementing the MoU. City Bank Card, Chase low rate loan, American Express
