* Sri Lanka is committed to a pluralistic society, says envoy

Feb 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka yesterday said it is committed to a pluralistic society in which all communities can live in peace and harmony.

Deputy High Commissioner in Southern India P.M. Amza, addressing a ceremony to mark the 59th anniversary of Sri Lankan Independence, said, “Our government has a firm resolve to overcome all challenges and carry out all its responsibilities. Now, all Sri Lankans have the responsibility to build a future worthy of the sacrifices made by our forefathers and our leaders.”

He also said that India, being Sri Lanka’s nearest neighbour, has been supportive of the island government’s efforts to resolve the ethnic crisis in his country.
