* Families displaced due to coal power plant to be resettled in Sri Lanka

Feb 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Power and Energy said that 72 families who will lose residences due to the construction of Norochcholai coal power plant in Eastern Sri Lanka would soon be resettled in a newly constructed housing scheme in Daluwa.

The Ministry has decided to accelerate the construction of the Nation’s first ever coal power plant that is to commence generation in 2010.

The Norochcholai power plant will generate 300MW of electricity in the first stage and will be expanded to 900 MW later. China invests for the setting up of the $ 455 million power plant.
