* Sri Lanka's public sector strike called by Marxist party trade unions postponed
Thursday, February 1, 2007, 14:19 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka parliamentarian K.D. Lal Kantha, the chairman of the National Trade Union Centre (NTUC), announced today that the token strike scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed, allowing the government time to grant the six demands made by public servants.

Lal Kantha, the trade union leader of Sri Lanka's Marxist nationalist People's Liberation Front (JVP), however threatened to launch a general strike if the demands are not met.

He further said that although the token strike by the entire public sector was postponed, more strikes are to come individually in ministries based on the problems of workers at those institutions.
