* Sri Lanka President visits Japan

Dec 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in the capital of Japan, Tokyo yesterday for a two-day official visit a special invitation from Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda. On the first leg of the visit The President visited the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto and presented a Buddha statue to the Chief Incumbent of the Temple.

President is due to meet Prime Minister Fukuda and Emperor Komatsu Akihito tomorrow. Emperor Akihito will host the President and First Lady Shiranthi at the Akasaka Palace, a former imperial residence that functions today as the State Guest-House.

Two Japanese children warmly welcomed the President and the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. The Sri Lankan Embassy of Japan in Tokyo organized a reception in honor of the President. Venerable Maha Sangha and two Sri Lankan children welcomed the President and First Lady. President addressed the Sri Lankans living in Japan. Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Japan Ranjith Uyangoda also pictured here.
