* Sri Lanka becomes runners up in South Asian Junior Athletic Championship

No 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka placed second while India won the South Asian Junior Athletic Championship ended in Colombo today.

India won 21 gold, 19 silver and 5 bronze medals. Sri Lanka was able to bag 8 gold, 8 silver and 17 bronze medals. Pakistan became third with 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. Maldives and Bangladesh placed fourth and fifth respectively.

For Sri Lanka, Dulanjalee Ranasinghe won a gold for women’s high jump event, while Jehan Ambepitiya won gold medals for 200m and 100m men’s events. Saman Kumara won a gold medal for 400m men’s event and Serina Clarence won a gold medal for women’s javelin throw. Udara Silva bagged a gold medal for men’s high jump. In addition, Sri Lanka relay teams clinched gold medals for both 100m men’s and women’s events.

Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge presented the President’s trophy to the winning Indian team.
