* Protest march in Colombo to prevent cruelty against animals

Nov 30, Colombo: A march organized to highlight the importance of preventing cruelty against animals and slaughtering of cows was launched in Colombo yesterday.

The march commenced from the Public Trustee Department at Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Buddhist Council in Borella. Hundreds of people at all ages were seen marching with banners and boards with slogans highlighting the importance of showing kindness to all animals.

Addressing the gathering following the march, venerable Athuraliye Rathana thero said that the aim of the march was to urge the law enforcement authorities to implement laws related to slaughtering of cows and cruelty against animals effectively. The venerable thero further noted that law enforcement authorities have not been active enough to curb the animal torture though the laws in the country.
