Dec 12, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has implemented a Window Berthing policy to increase the efficiency of services between the Port of Colombo and the Indian Subcontinent.
In this system a vessel is given a specific time window to be berthed upon arrival and any delays will be penalized. This policy is implemented in most ports around the world and also the general policy of the privately owned South Asia Gateway Terminal, the SLPA said in a statement.
The SLPA’s new window berthing scheme will initially cover Chennai & Tuticorin sectors, with two berths being reserved for this purpose at Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and Unity Container Terminal (UCT).
