* Sri Lanka President holds discussions with Japanese PM

Dec 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today met Prime Minister of Japan Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda at the Prime Minister's office in Tokyo. The two leaders held bilateral discussions on the current situation of Sri Lanka and held a press conference afterwards.

Fukuda said Japan would continue to offer economic assistance to Sri Lanka and offered his country's assistance for a peaceful solution in Sri Lanka.

Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura has reportedly told the President that Japan would approve 1.9 billion yen aid to Sri Lanka next week, Japanese media said.
