The coal power plant is being constructed in the Southern end of Kalpitiya peninsula with the funds from
China. It will be constructed in three stages, with a capacity of 300MW per plant per year, making a
total capacity of 900MW by 2010.
Chairman of the China National Machinery & Equipment Company (CMEC), Ron Hon Bin and the vice
president of the Exim Bank of China Lee Jun also accompanied the President.
The CMEC Company of China constructs the power plant in Norochcholai. Exim Bank has provided
the funds for the project.
