* Sri Lanka President observes the construction of Norochcholai coal power plant

Aug 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid a visit to inspect the construction of the coal power plant at Norochcholai this morning.

The coal power plant is being constructed in the Southern end of Kalpitiya peninsula with the funds from China. It will be constructed in three stages, with a capacity of 300MW per plant per year, making a total capacity of 900MW by 2010.

Chairman of the China National Machinery & Equipment Company (CMEC), Ron Hon Bin and the vice president of the Exim Bank of China Lee Jun also accompanied the President.

The CMEC Company of China constructs the power plant in Norochcholai. Exim Bank has provided the funds for the project.

Ministers John Seneviratne and Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Chinese Ambassador Ye Dabo, Ceylon Electricity Board Chairman Udaya Sri Kariyawasam and the President look at the model of the power plant.

Ministers Anura Priyadarsana Yapa, Susil Premachandra, Milroy Fernando, Felix Perera, D.M.Dassanayake, Niyomal Perera, Dayasritha Thisera, Wayamba Province Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe, Chinese Exim Bank, CEMC Chairman were also present.
