* MOU signed between Sri Lanka government and the teachers boycotting examination evaluation

Aug 31, Colombo: The five Sri Lankan teacher unions that were boycotting the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination evaluation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the cabinet subcommittee appointed to reach a settlement with the unions.

According to the settlement, the teachers’ unions and the Ministry of Education agreed to put forward a draft circular to remove the salary anomalies to the next cabinet meeting and to issue a circular after the cabinet approves the draft.

The teachers’ unions agreed to participate in evaluation after the problem of salary anomalies was solved.

Accordingly, the correcting the answer scripts which was completely paralyzed as a result of teachers’ trade union action was suspended and the Examination Commissioner would reschedule it.
