Friday, August 31, 2007, 12:51 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 31, Colombo: Three Tiger cadres were killed last night by the Sri Lankan troops in Muhamalai in Jaffna peninsula foiling an LTTE attempt to infiltrate the Forward Defence Lines, the military said.

Troops confronted a group of Tigers attempting to infiltrate the FDL in Muhamalai and opened fire forcing the Tigers to withdraw. Intercepted rebel communications have revealed that three LTTE cadres were killed in the incident.

Meanwhile acting on information received from a civilian, troops in Jaffna yesterday discovered a Claymore bomb planted in the Jaffna vegetable market premises where troops are providing security to many hundreds of people who come to buy their daily provisions, the military said.

The claymore was later defused by the bomb disposal team of the Army.
