Aug 27, Colombo: Acting Prime Minister of Myanmar, Lt. Gen. Thein Sein, arrived in Colombo today for a three day official visit on the invitation of Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka and met Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama this morning.
Lt. Gen. Thein Sein, leading a high-level delegation comprising the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Agriculture and Irrigation, Transport, Religious Affairs and Forestry in Myanmar will meet his Sri Lankan counterpart, Prime Minister Wickramanayaka later today.
Acting Prime Minister on behalf of the government and people of Myanmar will present two tusker elephants to the Temple of Tooth in Kandy. The government has arranged a special ceremony for the Myanmar delegation during the Esala Perahera festivals.
The acting PM and his delegation are also scheduled to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the chief prelates of the four main Nikayas. The delegation is expected to visit the ancient city of Anuradhapura and participate in a religious ceremony.
Both countries are keen to increase bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, technology transfer, transport, communication, tourism and cultural relations. Several MoUs will be signed between the two countries on Buddhist Studies and Cultural Cooperation, government said.
