Aug 24, Colombo: In a shocking discloser, the second report of parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) today revealed that the country had lost 600 million rupees due to financial malpractices in another 20 state institutions.
COPE Chairman and government MP Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa told parliament today these are blatant waste of public funds.
Among some of the institutions that financial malpractices took places are Foreign Employment Bureau, Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation, National Housing Development Authority, National Gem and Jewellery Authority, Exports Development Board and the Building Material Corporation, National Transport Commission, Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd., Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Mahapola Higher Education Trust Fund.
An earlier COPE report revealed loss of Rs. 1.5 billion due to corruption that took place in 26 government enterprises.
