Aug 23, Colombo: Presidential Export Awards ceremony was held after a lapse of ten years under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa today at the Temple Trees.
The President appreciated the efforts of the local exporters who contribute to 25% of the Gross Domestic Product. He also said that the government has not forgotten the exporters despite war, fulfilled the promises made in the Mahinda Chinthanaya. The President also said that the electricity tariff would be reduced after the construction of Norochcholai, Upper Kothmale and Kerawalapitiya power plants.
Thirty eight exporters received awards at the ceremony.
The awards, presented on the directions of the Export Development Board are in recognition of professional competence exhibited by the export community in boosting the national economy.
