* Navy says poaching by Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka waters causing difficulties
Monday, August 20, 2007, 11:57 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 20, Colombo: The Sri Lankan Navy yesterday said continuing presence of Indian fishermen in the Sri Lankan waters is causing severe difficulties to the Navy.

A senior Navy official said that Indian fishermen entering into the northern Sri Lankan waters for poaching and their lives are in great danger as Tamil Tigers mingle with Indian fishing boats to smuggle arms, explosives and military hardware to northern Sri Lanka.

The comment came after the Navy rescued four Indian fishermen who were stranded in the Sri Lankan waters after their boat capsized near the Delft Island yesterday morning.

This is the second such incident within a week. Another four fishermen were rescued in the same area on Aug 14 and handed over to the Indian authorities.
