* Potato import tax increased

Aug 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka government today decided to increase the import tax of potato from current five rupees to fifteen rupees to save the local farmer in the coming harvesting season.

Government committee took this decision as a step to minimize the cost of living. The committee met today under the patronage of the Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka.

The committee also discussed on a mechanism to purchase potato directly from farmers.
