* Emergency extended in Sri Lanka, opposition abstains

Apr 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka parliament passed the proposal for extending the emergency regulations for another month yesterday while the major opposition United National Party (UNP) abstained voting.

A total of 119 MPs of the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom party, People's Liberation Front, Jathika Hela Urumaya, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Upcountry Tamil parties and the 17 UNP rebel group voted in support of the proposal.

Only Tamil National Alliance voted against the proposal.
