Apr 10, Colombo: The Sri Lankan leg of the SAARC Car Rally got off to a start from the Galle Road near the Taj Samudra Hotel this morning. It will wind its way south through the scenic coastal Galle Road to reach Tissamaharama today.
Tomorrow the rally will proceed to Kandy via Nawalapitiya and Gampola. From there it will reach historic Dambulla and Anuradhapura before coming back to Colombo via Kurunegala.
The Sri Lanka leg of the SAARC Rally will cover a total distance of nearly 600 miles covering beaches, mountains and historical cities. It will reach Colombo on Thursday.
The Rally began at Cox's Bazaar in Bangladesh on March 15 with over 100 participants in 30 vehicles to coincide with the SAARC summit in New Delhi, India. The Indian leg of the rally was ceremonially flagged off in New Delhi by the leaders of the eight SAARC countries on April 3. The rally will end in Maldives.
