* Japanese special envoy meets Sri Lanka President

Oct 16, Colombo: Japanese special envoy Yasushi Akashi called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees this morning.

Mr. Akashi returned to Colombo on Sunday evening in another push to restart peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and LTTE. He will meet leaders from both sides during his stay in Sri Lanka.

The Japanese envoy will be followed by two other senior diplomats, United States Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher and Norwegian special envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer, who are also due in Sri Lanka for meetings connected to the peace process.

Hanssen-Bauer arrives on Tuesday, while Boucher arrives on Thursday.
