* Sri Lanka President pays tribute to war heroes

Oct 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa went to the remote Galgamuwa area in the North Western Province today to pay tribute to war heroes who had died in the recent Muhamalai battle.

Mr. Rajapaksa is pictured below paying his last respects to H.M. Nandasiri in his house at Sangappaliya Galgamuwa. The President also paid last respects to Saman Premasiri Jayasundara in Nawagattegama.

It is reported that 23 out of the around 130 soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the recent battle at the Forward Defence Line south of Jaffna were from the Galgamuwa electorate. The President paid last respects symbolically to one fallen soldier who was from remote Sangappaliya village in Galgamuwa. He also visited another funeral house in Nawagattegama village.

The President addressing the funeral ceremony said that the war heroes who hail from this kind of remote village should be respected by the entire nation and by future generations.
