Nov 01, Colombo: The Sri Lanka government is planning to implement a comprehensive Mine Action Programme to make the country mine free by the end of the year 2008.

The programme is being managed by the Ministry of Nation Building and Infrastructure. More than twelve countries, including Japan, are supporting the Mine Action Programme.

The Government of Japan has agreed to provide US$ 11.5 million for the project. The agreement for this was signed at the Ministry on September 20.
