Dec 09, Colombo: President Mahinda Rajapaksa has request global IT giant Intel's support for the e-Sri Lanka programme, which aims to develop the nation through information and communication technology (ICT).
The President also extended his fullest support for possible Intel investments in Sri Lanka and invited the company to work jointly with the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka, which comes under his direct purview.
President Rajapaksa made these requests this morning when Intel chairman Dr. Craig Barrett paid a courtesy call at the Temple Trees, where the President is residing.
Dr. Barrett, the highest ranking official in IT ever to visit Sri Lanka, was positive about the President’s request and said the company would give their highest priority to Sri Lanka in the future.
“I am personally happy about the leadership’s commitments over ICT in Sri Lanka and optimistic too on ICT development here in the future,” the Intel chairman reportedly said.
In the past twelve months, Intel has been working in close partnership with ICTA and recently announced the launch of the “eSri Lanka PC”, a programme that seeks to improve PC penetration and usage in the country.
ICTA’s Chairman Professor V.K. Samaranayaka, CEO/MD Manju Haththotuwa and Programme Manager Prasanna Karunarathna were also present at the occasion.
