Dec 24, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Mehmet Ali Sahin yesterday opened a 450-house Turkish Village in the Matara District.

The homes are for the benefit of families who were victims of the December 2004 tsunami, which killed over 30,000 people and displaced more than one million others in Sri Lanka. The housing project is a donation of the Turkish Red Crescent Society.

Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene and Southern Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva are also in the pictures.
