Dec 17, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday at the Temple Trees briefed the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the government's policy regarding the peace process.
President Rajapaksa said he was prepared to talk with the Tiger organization regarding their reported human rights violations, violations of the Ceasefire Agreement, murders, abductions and attacks against security forces.
The President said his aim was to commence negotiations with the Tigers as early as possible and the Government Peace Secretariat has already informed the Tiger organization of this.
The Catholic Bishops expressed their blessings for the government’s new programme.
