Friday, December 16, 2005, 5:03 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 16, Colombo: UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe has pledged fullest support for a "meaningful" peace process.

He said the UNP was a party that does not want to get political mileage from the ethnic crisis, and he vowed to continue that policy.

“The UNP is ready to support the President and today we assured our participation for any important meetings towards sustainable peace,” Mr. Wickramasinghe said just after his meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The UNP delegation meeting the President included Karu Jayasuriya, G.L. Peiris, and Joseph Michael Perera, while the government was represented by Premier Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, Susil Premajayantha, and Maithripala Sirisena.
