Dec 16, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Small Scale Hydro Power Generators' Association has ambitious plans to increase their contribution to the national power grid to 400 MW.
Chairman of the Association Dr. Nishantha Nanayakkara says small scale power generators already generate 100 MW, saving Rs. 3 billion that was to flow out of the country as fuel bills. He further said that if they could fulfill the target, the country could save Rs. 10.5 billion.
However, the Association adds that the government and Ceylon Electricity Board do not provide the assistance needed, and the official procedures discourage rather than encourage an increase in production.
